In keeping with tradition, January started in Alaska with New Year’s! Getting back into the swing of things after the holidays is never easy. A visit to Washington wine country helped wash away the...
the winter doldrums! In February, Willow added a new word to her budding vocabulary: “no!” paired with ardent head-shaking. She soon got a chance to try it on her grandparents. Mary Jo & Bill came visited in February and Elliott and Bonnie came in March to take care of her while we traveled in South Korea and Cambodia to celebrate Jen’s 40th. Winter was long and wet, but we did finally get to go tiptoe through the tulips. April showers brought May… sailing! Willow also got a wonderful visit with her cousins and a trip to Indiana to see her Great Grandma Betty. June didn’t warm up, so the sailing was chilly, but at least the anchorages weren’t crowded. July brought a little sun and a backyard landscaping project. August took us back to the boat for a wonderful trip to Princess Louisa Inlet – one of the prettiest places we’ve been. In September, Willow started to refuse our help, instead yelling “self!” In October, Willow paid a visit to her great grandma Sophie in D.C., turned two and declared she wanted to be a cat for Halloween. By the time we got to November, we desperately needed some sun and went to Mexico for Thanksgiving. And, finally, a December to remember: Jen & Jake went to the White House Holiday Party, met Barack and Michelle Obama and Jake got an interview with the President. In summary: traveling, growing up, sailing, White House--a wonderful 2011!
