First Sail of 2011
April 23rd, During Grandpa E’s Visit
After what seemed like months of rain, we finally had a nice day and took the opportunity to go out for our first sail. Grandpa Elliott was in town for a visit and helped keep Willow occupied. Sailing with her this season is a bit more of a challenge than last year because she’s so much more mobile. We instituted a new rule: when she’s on the docks on on deck, she has to wear a life jacket. She hated her jacket so much last year, we’re were worried that it was going to be a real struggle, but she picked out her own fairy life vest and seems to be content to wear it. Although, she does like to spend a lot of time below deck, where she’s free to run around without it on. We’ve also got a tether, so most of the time, she’d clipped in when she’s on deck. This has not gone over quite as well--in fact, it makes her furious--so, we have to be careful to keep it clipped on her back where she can’t see it and to keep her from getting to the end of her run. Once she feels the tug of the restraint, it’s all over.
