Road Trip to leavenworth, wenatchee and lake chelan
After Willow put kindergarten in her rear view mirror, we decided to put Seattle in our rear view mirror for a driving trip east. We took off the evening of Wednesday for Leavenworth. and the Icicle Resort. The next morning we got up to 80 degree temperatures. We played mini golf, took a dip in the pool and wandered into town for a late lunch. It was so nice we decided to stay another night. The next morning, we got up and headed to a campground in the Wenatchee forest for Bo's first camping trip (and Willow's second). Once we found a camp site, we set up our new mammoth tent (big enough for all of us, including Gabby) and went for a little walk along the river. After, we roasted hot dogs and marshmallows on on our campfire. In the morning, we packed up and headed for Lake Chelan. With the rolling hills and grape vines, the approach was a bit like being in California wine country. Then you get to the lake, which is a beautiful, sparkling blue. We did a wine tasting at Tsillan Cellars at the top of a hill overlooking the lake. Willow's favorite part was the Koi pond. We also made a reservation to come back to the adjoining restaurant Sorrento's for dinner. After hitting another winery, we got checked into Campbell's resort at the south end of the lake and immediately hit the pool, lake beach and hot tub. That evening, we had a lovely dinner (food ok; surroundings spectacular) at Sorrento's. The next morning, we went for breakfast and blueberry picking at Blueberry Hill and then spent the rest of the day playing at the pool before taking a walk around town and having a take out dinner at the picnic table with a view of the lake outside our room. Sunday morning was father's day. We got up and had breakfast at the hotel restaurant and began the drive home a bit early, so that we'd have plenty of time when we got back to get packed for our departure to Alaska the next morning.
