Here’s a snapshot of our 2010:
]We really racked up the frequent flier miles this year (even Willow has an account), starting the new year in Jen’s hometown Willow, AK. Before the year was over, we also managed to squeeze in trips to Oahu, Oregon wine country, the KY Derby & Breeder’s Cup, Washington, D.C., a wedding in Sonoma, CA and a sailing trip to Desolation Sound, British Columbia.

Unfortunately, not all of our travel was for fun. Sadly, Jen’s maternal grandfather passed away this year, and Jake’s mother was treated for breast cancer. In October, we left behind our deee-luxe apartment in the sky and our walks to work for a house in Seattle’s Magnolia neighborhood. Although it felt a bit like a move to the burbs, Magnolia is actually quite close to downtown. We’ve been enjoying having a yard and the extra space and are adding to it by building a bigger back deck and garage. In the process, we’ve learned a few lessons about home improvement projects: 1) HGTV ≠ reality and 2) weeks = months in contractor-speak. The constants in our life this year: our jobs--Jake as managing editor at KIRO and Jen an associate at Davis Wright Tremaine--and our wonder and delight at watching Willow grow and develop. It seems so hard to believe that helpless little infant we started the year with is now a toothy toddler, who chases the cats, eats pizza and giggles hysterically at peek-a-boo. We can’t wait to see what new surprises 2011 brings. Wishing you lots of good surprises in the new year.
